Beyond Cuckoo

On the Road

On the Road

Beyond Cuckoo began as a rant, progressed to disbelief and evolved, or regressed, depending on your perspective, as research and plot development for a novel in progress.

Jack Kerouac wrote his Beat fictional trip on one continuous scroll of paper ‘round and about the same year I was born. Some consider it master-work others as master-dribble—mind blowing prose meant to incite, excite and shock the establishment. Today the establishment, now overshadowed by Donald Trump’s election, is in chaos—the environment and wild life preservation is at risk. Will River Agosto be able to incite, excite, and shock? Will she get the attention she needs to make a point? Any point? Some point? She will try, even if it kills her.

If you’ve been following along you already know that River works for a corporate conglomerate with public engineering interests including dams and canals in the Desert Southwest. She grew up in the Central Valley of California in a multi-cultural environment and craves, not human, but canine companionship. That’s about all for now. So, how do we find out more? Like Mr. Kerouac, I guess we’ll take to the road.

This road trip thing, a few days ago, took me and hubby Blake to a RV dealership where we bought a mobile office. It’s roomy enough to live comfortably while he follows his muse and I look for the story. Water, and all it sustains, seems to be at the forefront here as it is in North Dakota. The story will evolve, as stories do, in the telling. I think River Agosto is as brave as those at Standing Rock and she might come across their bravery at some point—blessedly after their victory. Will there be a wolf or two? You bet.
